Jaipur, May 27, 2025:
A 26-year-old man from Jaipur has become the latest casualty of Covid-19 in Rajasthan, as the state witnesses a fresh uptick in infections. The patient, who had been battling tuberculosis and other health issues for the past two months, tested positive for Covid-19 on May 24 and succumbed to the disease a day later, on May 25. The Medical and Health Department confirmed his death on Monday.

On May 26 alone, Rajasthan reported eight new Covid-19 cases:

  • Jodhpur: 4 cases (three from AIIMS, one from SNMC)

  • Jaipur: 3 cases (from Rajasthan Hospital, B Lal Hospital, and EHCC)

  • Udaipur: 1 case (from RNT Medical College)

This brings the state’s total Covid-19 cases for 2025 to 23. The district-wise breakdown is as follows: Jaipur (6), Jodhpur (4), Udaipur (4), Didwana (3), Ajmer (2), Bikaner (1), Phalodi (1), Sawai Madhopur (1), and Others (1).

Current Variant and National Situation
Health authorities have identified the JN.1 variant, a descendant of Omicron BA.2.86, as the main strain in circulation. Experts emphasize that this variant is not considered fatal, but they urge continued vigilance, especially in hospitals and crowded areas. The public is advised to wear masks, maintain hygiene, and seek prompt medical attention if symptoms arise.

Nationally, India currently has 1,009 active Covid-19 cases, with Kerala (430), Maharashtra (209), and Delhi (104) reporting the highest numbers. Seven deaths have been reported across Maharashtra (4), Kerala (2), and Karnataka (1).

Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), reassured the public that while cases are rising, the infections are not severe and there is no cause for alarm. The government continues to monitor the situation closely.

According to the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), the variants NB.1.8.1 and LF.7—descendants of the JN.1 variant—are currently responsible for the increase in cases across the country.

Public Health Advisory
Authorities recommend that residents, especially those with pre-existing health conditions, remain cautious and follow Covid-19 safety protocols to prevent further spread of the virus.
