Chandigarh, India – March 5, 2025 – In a significant ruling, the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has dismissed a medical negligence complaint against Dr. Deepak Kalia of Novena Clinic, Chandigarh. The complaint was filed over an allegedly unsuccessful liposuction procedure, but the commission found no substantial evidence of negligence.

The case stemmed from a patient’s dissatisfaction with the results of their liposuction surgery. Initially, the District Consumer Commission had ruled in favor of the patient, ordering Dr. Kalia to provide a refund and compensation. “Medical treatment is a complex process where results may vary based on multiple factors, including individual patient conditions. Dissatisfaction with a procedure does not imply that the doctor was negligent,” the commission stated in its ruling.

This decision sets an important precedent in medical jurisprudence, reinforcing the autonomy of doctors in determining appropriate treatment methods while ensuring that patient expectations are managed within realistic parameters.
