A daily cup of coffee might give your metabolism a gentle nudge and help you feel more energized, but overdoing it could do more harm than good, warns renowned nutritionist Nmami Agarwal.
In a recent social media post, Agarwal highlighted the potential benefits of coffee, particularly its caffeine content, which can suppress appetite and increase alertness. “It’s low in calories and gets absorbed quickly, giving an instant energy push,” she explained, noting why many people reach for coffee before a workout.
However, Agarwal cautioned against excessive consumption, especially when it comes to high-calorie coffee drinks loaded with sugar, syrups, or cream. “Too much caffeine can lead to hyperacidity, disturb sleep cycles, and raise cortisol levels, which can cause anxiety, hormonal imbalances, and even promote fat storage,” she said.
The key, according to Agarwal, is moderation. She recommends limiting coffee intake to one or two cups a day and avoiding sugary, flavored cappuccinos or adding too much milk and sweetener. To prevent sleep disturbances, she suggests stopping coffee consumption after 3 PM.
“Coffee can support weight management as part of a healthy routine, but the right dose makes all the difference,” Agarwal emphasized. She also pointed out that persistent fatigue may be a sign of underlying nutritional deficiencies, not just a lack of caffeine.
Agarwal, known for her holistic approach to nutrition, has consistently encouraged her followers to focus on long-term lifestyle changes for better hormonal balance and metabolism, rather than relying on quick fixes.
