A serious breach of hygiene protocols has triggered public outcry after a cockroach was discovered in a meal served to a female patient at Fortis Hospital in Sector 62, Noida. The incident, which occurred earlier this week, involved a bowl of khichdi provided as part of the hospital’s standard patient meal service.
According to reports, the patient, who was recovering from surgery, was assisted by her husband when the insect was spotted in the food. The husband, a resident of Sector 99, Noida, described the incident as a “major health hazard” that could have had severe consequences for his wife’s recovery. “She could have eaten that cockroach,” he told reporters. “She’s already unwell, and this kind of negligence could have made things much worse”.
The family claims that when they raised the issue with hospital authorities, their concerns were met with dismissiveness. Frustrated by the lack of a proper response, the husband recorded a video of the contaminated food and shared it on social media, where it quickly went viral and sparked widespread outrage. The family has since filed a formal complaint with the local police, demanding accountability for the lapse in hygiene and food safety standards.
Prompted by the incident, officials from the local food safety department visited the hospital and collected samples of the contaminated khichdi for laboratory testing. Authorities have assured that appropriate action will be taken based on the test results. Meanwhile, Fortis Hospital management has acknowledged receipt of the complaint and stated that an internal investigation is underway. However, as of now, the hospital has not issued any official statement addressing the matter.
