Amid a global resurgence in Covid-19 cases, reports from The Epoch Times indicate a distressing trend in China—rising death rates attributed to infections caused by the JN.1 variant. The country’s crematoriums are reportedly overwhelmed due to a surge in Covid-related fatalities, painting a grim picture amidst a recent pneumonia outbreak, particularly affecting children.
According to locals in Henan province, government-run crematoriums are operating incessantly, spanning day and night, as hospitals reach maximum capacity with patients suffering from fevers and colds. Reports suggest a substantial number of children have been infected, while elderly individuals succumb to pneumonia.
Zhou Xiang, a resident in Nanyang city of Henan Province, highlighted the stringent control over information, mentioning that individuals are prohibited from associating their illnesses with Covid-19. Despite the denial of Covid-19 tests and the reluctance of doctors to confirm diagnoses, there’s a growing awareness among the public that the illness is indeed Covid-19 related.
The JN.1 variant, part of the Omicron lineage present in 41 countries, was recently classified as a separate Variant of Interest (VOI) by the World Health Organization (WHO). While WHO initially labeled JN.1’s infections as mild, The Epoch Times reports a surge in deaths spanning across various age groups.
Zhou emphasized the severity of the situation, noting a surge in funeral attendance and an unsettling revelation from a friend working in a funeral home—eight crematoriums operating round the clock to manage the overwhelming influx of bodies.
The alarming increase in Covid-related deaths, encompassing both young and old, presents a somber reality in China, prompting concerns over the handling and acknowledgment of these fatalities amidst the growing impact of the JN.1 variant.
