CHENNAI: Three individuals in Chennai have tested positive for COVID-19, marking the first active cases reported in Tamil Nadu after a brief period with none, a local health official confirmed on Tuesday. The patients, two men and one woman, are currently receiving medical care.

The positive cases were identified after 32 individuals underwent RT-PCR testing on Sunday, April 21st. This development follows the state reporting zero active COVID-19 cases as recently as Saturday, April 20th, prompting renewed attention from health authorities.

Despite the re-emergence of cases, a health official sought to alleviate public concern. “This is not at all an issue. There is nothing to panic now,” the official stated on Tuesday, adding that the patients are being closely monitored under medical supervision.

Health authorities are continuing to monitor the situation following the detection of these cases.
