Dr. Rajiv Gupta, a health policy analyst not involved in the meeting, noted, “Streamlined procedures and faster approvals can significantly reduce patient stress and financial burden during hospitalization. However, sustaining uniform protocols across diverse insurers and hospitals remains a challenge, requiring robust monitoring and regulatory enforcement.”

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) recently revealed that although 3.3 crore health insurance claims were settled in FY 2024-25, the total amount disbursed, approximately ₹94,247 crore, often fell short of policyholders’ expectations. IRDAI Chairman Ajay Seth emphasized that while the claim settlement numbers are high, there are persistent gaps regarding the fairness and transparency of these payouts.
