The Government of India has unveiled a major revamp of the Sugamya Bharat App (SBA), its flagship digital platform aimed at improving accessibility for people with disabilities and elderly citizens. Announced by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the upgraded app promises a more user-friendly and impactful experience, integrating advanced features to better serve its users.

Intuitive Interface: The app now boasts a redesigned, more intuitive interface, making navigation easier for users of all abilities.

AI-Powered Chatbot: A new artificial intelligence chatbot offers real-time assistance, helping users find information on government initiatives, schemes, and accessibility resources quickly and efficiently.

Resource Integration: The app displays circulars and notifications about new government initiatives related to accessibility, as well as integrated resources for persons with disabilities.

Accessibility Reporting: Users can continue to upload geo-tagged photos of locations where accessibility barriers exist, enabling authorities to take swift corrective action.

Wider Reach: As of June 25, 2025, the app had 14,358 registered users and 83,791 downloads (82,291 on Android and 1,500 on iOS), reflecting its growing adoption across India.
Impact and Government Commitment
Since its launch in 2021 by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), the Sugamya Bharat App has become a crucial tool for reporting accessibility issues in public infrastructure, transportation, and information and communication technology systems. To date, 2,705 complaints have been lodged through the app, with 1,897 already resolved—a testament to the government’s ongoing commitment to building a barrier-free, inclusive environment.
The Ministry continues to encourage citizens to actively participate by reporting accessibility challenges, supporting the vision of an inclusive India.

The Sugamya Bharat App is available for free download on the Google Play Store for Android devices and the Apple App Store for iOS platforms.
