New Delhi, May 20, 2025 – The Central government has officially dismissed a viral message circulating on social media platforms, which claims that dialing ‘104’ provides access to an emergency “Blood on Call” service across India.

The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check unit clarified that the information is false and misleading. The viral posts suggested that anyone in urgent need of blood could simply dial ‘104’ to receive assistance, sparking widespread sharing and concern among the public.

According to the PIB, while the ‘104’ helpline does exist in several states, its primary function is to offer medical advice, health-related information, and counseling-not to arrange blood donations or transfusions. The government emphasized that there is no nationwide “Blood on Call” service linked to the ‘104’ helpline.

Health authorities urge citizens to rely on verified sources for information regarding medical services and to avoid sharing unconfirmed messages that may cause confusion or panic. For blood-related emergencies, individuals are advised to contact recognized blood banks, hospitals, or the National Blood Transfusion Council.
