A heartwarming and unique gathering took place on Sunday at a local hospital in Lucknow, bringing together a remarkable assembly of “guests” who share a common origin – they are all test tube babies, born through the In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) technique. The event saw the participation of 255 children, each with their own story of conception and birth through IVF.
Among the attendees was Prarthna, Lucknow’s first IVF baby, who has now entered adulthood and, in a beautiful testament to the circle of life, gave birth to her own child, Pavani, through natural means two years ago. The event served as both a reunion and a celebration of the advancements in fertility treatments that have brought joy to numerous families.
Dr. Gita Khanna, a veteran IVF expert and the director of Ajanta Hospital, highlighted the changing landscape of fertility treatments, making them more accessible to a broader spectrum of the population. Dr. Khanna noted, “With treatment becoming affordable, a large number of working women from the middle class are now opting for freezing their eggs for future delivery. This allows them to experience the joy of motherhood at their convenience, and this is fast becoming a popular trend.”
The gathering symbolized the shift in perceptions and possibilities around fertility treatments. Dr. Khanna emphasized that egg freezing for future delivery is no longer confined to celebrities and the affluent class. The affordability of these procedures has led to a surge in the number of working women opting for egg freezing, providing them with the flexibility to embrace motherhood at a time that suits them best.
“Earlier, we used to get one or two such cases, but now their number is in the hundreds and rising,” Dr. Khanna remarked. Both Prarthna and Pavani, named by Dr. Khanna, serve as inspirational figures for prospective IVF parents, showcasing the success and fulfillment that fertility treatments can bring to families.
