New Delhi, July 3, 2025 — The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested six individuals, including three doctors, in a sweeping operation targeting alleged bribery and corruption in the medical college inspection process. The investigation centers on the Shri Rawatpura Sarkar Institute of Medical Sciences & Research in Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh, where officials and intermediaries are accused of manipulating statutory inspections in exchange for substantial bribes.
According to official CBI statements, the case was registered against office-bearers of the institute, inspecting doctors, and other intermediaries after credible information emerged that assessors were being influenced to submit favorable inspection reports for the recognition of medical colleges. The CBI laid a trap and apprehended the accused during a bribe transaction involving ₹55 lakh, which was delivered in Bengaluru as allegedly demanded by the inspecting doctors.
The arrested individuals are expected to be produced before competent courts at their respective locations. The CBI has also conducted searches at over 40 locations across Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh as part of the ongoing investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate the use of various methods to unlawfully influence the inspection process, with designated assessors allegedly providing favorable reports to multiple medical colleges in return for illegal gratification. The CBI’s crackdown follows similar recent incidents, including the arrest of a National Medical Commission (NMC) assessor for accepting a bribe to issue a positive inspection report.
The National Medical Commission has responded by blacklisting implicated assessors and imposing strict sanctions on involved institutions, including blocking seat renewals and expansions for the academic year 2025-26.
