In a harrowing incident that has triggered widespread outrage across India, a doctor in Bihar’s Gaya district was brutally assaulted, tied to a tree, and beaten with iron rods and sticks for providing medical care to the mother of a rape survivor. The victim, Dr. Jitendra Yadav, had gone to a village under the Maoist-affected Gurpa police station jurisdiction to provide urgent medical attention to the mother of a gang-rape survivor. According to reports, a group of five women and three men—allegedly relatives of the rape accused—stormed the house, assaulted the family, and, suspecting the doctor of supporting the survivor’s family, dragged him outside. They then tied him to a tree and beat him mercilessly, leaving him bleeding and in agony under the scorching sun.
A disturbing video of the incident shows locals standing by as the doctor suffers, with a young girl’s voice heard decrying the lack of intervention from bystanders. The doctor was only there to help, but they beat him brutally.”
