Patna, India – June 4, 2025:
The Bihar government has suspended two senior medical officials after the tragic death of a rape victim, sparking outrage and demands for accountability across the state.

The incident centers around the death of a young woman who was brutally assaulted and left critically injured on May 26. According to reports, the victim was forced to wait for hours in an ambulance before being admitted to a government hospital, a delay that has drawn sharp criticism from the public and authorities alike.

In response, the Medical Superintendent of Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur has been suspended for alleged dereliction of duty. Additionally, the acting Deputy Superintendent of Patna Medical College Hospital, where the victim ultimately died, has been relieved of his responsibilities.

The Bihar Health Department cited serious administrative lapses in the handling of the case, particularly in the timely admission and care of the victim. The disciplinary actions were announced after an internal review found significant failures in protocol and patient management.

The case has reignited concerns about the state of healthcare and the treatment of sexual assault victims in Bihar. Civil society groups and women’s rights activists have called for further reforms and strict enforcement of protocols to ensure victims receive prompt and compassionate care.

Authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that additional measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
