Patna, June 6, 2025:
After a determined 48-hour protest outside the Bihar Council of Medical Registration (BCMR) office in Patna, Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) in Bihar achieved a significant breakthrough. The Bihar Health Department officially signed and approved the much-awaited Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) list on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

The protest, which began on Tuesday morning, June 3, saw dozens of FMGs demanding the immediate release of the CRMI list—a crucial requirement for eligibility in the NEET PG examination. The delay had left many students anxious, fearing they might miss the opportunity to appear for next year’s postgraduate medical entrance exam.

A Long Wait and Mounting Tensions

The controversy began when the first internship list, issued on April 17, was withdrawn due to a typing error. A second list, released on April 22, was also cancelled by the health department, which cited violations of National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines. According to officials, the number of FMGs listed in the second release exceeded the prescribed quota.

This repeated cancellation led to frustration among FMGs, many of whom have returned from countries such as Kyrgyzstan and are eager to complete their mandatory internship in India. The CRMI is not only a regulatory requirement but also a gateway for these graduates to pursue further studies and careers in the Indian medical system.

Breakthrough and Official Confirmation

On Wednesday, Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, Pratyaya Amrit, addressed the media, confirming that a revised and compliant list had been finalised. “The file has been readied and the list will be uploaded within 45 minutes,” he assured reporters and the protesting FMGs.

The announcement was met with relief and cautious optimism among the demonstrators, who had spent two nights outside the BCMR office in hopes of a resolution.

A Step Forward for FMGs

The signing and imminent publication of the CRMI list marks a critical step forward for FMGs in Bihar. For many, it brings an end to weeks of uncertainty and opens the door to further training and educational opportunities.
