Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a doctor in Bengaluru has filed a police complaint after a woman allegedly sought a prescription for medicine to poison her mother-in-law. The Sanjaynagar police have taken up the investigation and are currently tracing the accused.

Dr. Sunil Kumar Hebbi, who lodged the complaint, spoke to the media on Wednesday about the bizarre request. According to him, on February 17 at 2 p.m., he received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number. The sender, later identified as a woman named Sahana, initially greeted him before insisting on conversing in Kannada. When Dr. Hebbi inquired about her health concerns, she revealed her shocking request, asking for two tablets that could be used to kill her mother-in-law.

Disturbed by the demand, Dr. Hebbi immediately rejected it, stating that it was unethical and against medical principles. “Our duty as doctors is to save lives, not take them. I told her it was wrong to misuse my contact information obtained from social media,” he explained.

However, the woman persisted, pleading for the prescription. Alarmed by her repeated messages, Dr. Hebbi approached the Sanjaynagar police station and filed a formal complaint against her. Despite his report, no immediate action had been taken at the time of his statement to the media.

The doctor also noted that the accused’s WhatsApp display picture was not visible, raising concerns about whether this was an attempt to entrap him. Dr. Hebbi, known for his activism and previous candidacy in the Karnataka Assembly elections from Vijayapura, has often faced opposition for his work. “I don’t know if this was an attempt to trap me, but I have been targeted before,” he said.

According to Dr. Hebbi, the woman later called again, apologizing and begging him not to report her. She claimed that she was driven to the act due to alleged harassment by her mother-in-law and that she could no longer bear the situation.

Police sources have confirmed that efforts are underway to track and trace the accused. Meanwhile, Dr. Hebbi continues his advocacy through social media, raising awareness on health and social issues.
