In response to a surge in dengue fever cases across Indonesia, Bali’s regional government has issued a fervent call for foreign tourists visiting the picturesque island to avail themselves of dengue vaccinations. The move aims to safeguard the health and well-being of travelers amidst growing concerns over the escalating incidence of the mosquito-borne disease.
Gusti Ayu Raka Susanti, the Acting Head of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) at the Bali Health Agency, emphasized the importance of proactive measures to combat dengue fever during a recent statement. While dengue vaccines have yet to be mandated nationally, tourists are strongly advised to prioritize their health by opting for the recommended vaccinations, especially when venturing into endemic areas.
“The dengue fever vaccinations are highly suggested, not only for tourists, but also all Balinese people, so that they can protect themselves from dengue infections,” Susanti underscored, as reported by local media outlets.
The call to action comes against the backdrop of a worrisome uptick in dengue fever cases nationwide, prompting heightened vigilance among health authorities and stakeholders in Bali. Despite the absence of precise data on the number of tourists affected by dengue fever, the cumulative incidence of the disease within the province has reached alarming levels.
From January to April of this year alone, Bali has recorded a staggering total of 4,177 dengue cases, resulting in five tragic fatalities. This concerning trend underscores the imperative for preemptive measures to curb the spread of the disease and protect both residents and visitors alike.
As Bali grapples with the mounting public health challenge posed by dengue fever, concerted efforts are underway to raise awareness and promote preventive healthcare practices.
