The Ministry of Ayush remains resolute in its mission to position Ayurveda as a universal health solution and enhance its global presence, Minister of State for Ayush and Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, announced on Sunday.

Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s acknowledgment of Ayurveda’s growing global recognition in the 117th episode of his radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Jadhav noted the Ministry’s dedicated efforts in expanding the global footprint of Ayurveda.

“The Ayush Ministry has signed 24 country-level and 48 institute-level Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), fostering collaborative research and education. Furthermore, 15 academic chairs have been established internationally to promote Ayurveda education and research. Ayush Information Cells, operating in 39 locations across 35 countries, serve as vital hubs for spreading knowledge about Ayurveda,” the minister shared.

Among the Ministry’s recent milestones are significant agreements such as the Donor Agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO), an MoU on Medicinal Plants Cooperation with Vietnam, and landmark pacts on Ayurveda with Malaysia and Mauritius. These partnerships align with India’s vision of achieving holistic health for all.

“The establishment of the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre in Jamnagar and the inclusion of traditional medicine in ICD-11 by WHO this year mark major advancements in the global recognition of Ayurveda,” Jadhav added.

Facilitating Medical Tourism

India has also introduced initiatives like the ‘Ayush Visa’ to facilitate medical tourism, positioning the country as a preferred destination for holistic healing. The widespread celebration of the 9th Ayurveda Day on October 29, 2023, across 150 countries underscores Ayurveda’s growing global acceptance.

Global Success Stories

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi cited an example from Paraguay, a South American nation with a small Indian community. At the Indian Embassy in Paraguay, Ayurveda consultation services offered by Erica Huber have garnered significant interest among local residents seeking traditional healthcare solutions.

Leadership in Traditional Medicine

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, credited PM Modi’s vision for Ayurveda’s increasing global acceptance. “The network of international collaborations through Ayush institutions is continuously expanding, highlighting India’s leadership in traditional medicine and its growing relevance in global healthcare,” he remarked.

Through these initiatives, the Ministry of Ayush is driving India’s efforts to make Ayurveda a cornerstone of global health, fulfilling its promise of holistic wellness for all.
