Andhra Pradesh Reports 5.4 Lakh Chicken Deaths Due to Avian Influenza; Central Teams Deployed for Assessment and Containment
In a concerning development, Andhra Pradesh has reported the deaths of over 5.4 lakh chickens due to an outbreak of Avian Influenza. In response, the Central Government has dispatched teams to assess the situation and implement containment measures, as confirmed by Animal Husbandry Minister K Atchannaidu on Thursday.
The outbreak has significantly impacted poultry farms in Eluru, West Godavari, East Godavari, and NTR districts. Authorities have initiated large-scale culling operations and established restricted zones to curb the spread of the virus. Notably, Badampudi village alone has recorded 2.2 lakh deaths, while Velpuru has reported 2.5 lakh fatalities.
A senior official from the Central Government is scheduled to visit Andhra Pradesh on February 14 to oversee the situation. The state authorities are closely monitoring developments on an hourly basis to ensure effective containment measures. Minister Atchannaidu reassured the public that properly cooked chicken and boiled eggs remain safe for consumption. He also urged people to refrain from spreading misinformation that could cause unnecessary panic.
The government is expected to release further updates as assessments continue, and precautionary measures are being implemented to protect both the poultry industry and public health.
