Delhi, September 6, 2024 – The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, held the 20th Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting of the MedTech Mitra initiative. This event also marked the launch of the 6th edition of the coffee table book series ‘Innovations for You’, focused on Life Sciences and Biotechnology.
The MedTech Mitra initiative, jointly launched on December 25, 2023, by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) under NITI Aayog’s guidance, supports MedTech innovators by offering clinical evaluation, regulatory guidance, and product development assistance.
20th TAC Meeting of MedTech Mitra
The MedTech Mitra initiative has seen significant engagement from innovators across India since its inception. To streamline the process of addressing innovator queries, twenty TAC meetings have been held, with the 20th session organized on September 6, 2024. These sessions provide a platform for innovators to present their ideas and receive guidance from a diverse range of partners, including CDSCO, AIM-NITI Aayog, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), and more.
During the meeting, Dr. V K Paul, Member (Health) of NITI Aayog, emphasized MedTech Mitra’s role in addressing the challenges innovators face in clinical evaluation, regulatory compliance, and production. “MedTech Mitra is designed to help navigate these complexities and accelerate the development of India’s MedTech sector,” he said.
Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary of DHR and DG of ICMR, praised the initiative’s progress and highlighted its potential to drive engagement from MedTech startups across the country. He also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and quality of medical devices under the new regulatory regime, positioning MedTech Mitra as a critical player in advancing healthcare technology in India.
Launch of the 6th Edition of ‘Innovations for You’ Coffee Table Book
Following the TAC meeting, AIM-NITI Aayog unveiled the 6th edition of ‘Innovations for You’, a coffee table book celebrating groundbreaking innovations in Life Sciences and Biotechnology. The book showcases 50 entrepreneurs incubated under Atal Incubation Centres, highlighting contributions in areas such as diagnostics, therapeutics, bioengineering, and drug discovery.
Dr. Chintan Vaishnav, Mission Director of AIM, remarked on the significance of the book, stating, “This edition not only highlights the exceptional work of Indian innovators but also aims to inspire the next generation of startups in the Life Sciences and Biotechnology sectors.”
The publication underscores the impact of AIM-supported incubators in nurturing innovation, contributing to India’s growing capabilities in healthcare technologies.
