Dewas, June 19, 2025 — A horrifying incident unfolded at the Amaltas Institute of Medical Sciences in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, when an unidentified armed intruder broke into a girl’s hostel room late Tuesday night and allegedly attempted to sexually assault and rob a medical student at knifepoint.
According to media reports, the assailant entered the hostel through a duct, climbed onto the sleeping student, and threatened her with a knife. The student showed remarkable presence of mind by asking for a glass of water. When the intruder momentarily left her side, she managed to escape, lock herself out of the room, and raise an alarm. By the time other hostel residents were alerted, the perpetrator had fled through a window.
The incident triggered immediate outrage among students. When the college administration reportedly dismissed the student’s account as a hallucination, medical students organized a large-scale protest outside the campus, demanding justice for the victim and accountability from the authorities. Videos circulating on social media show hundreds of students marching in solidarity and highlighting security lapses at the hostel, including open passageways that made unauthorized entry easy.
The protest escalated when students blocked a key road near the college, causing significant traffic disruption for about an hour. Police intervened to clear the blockade, after which the demonstration continued on a service road. Members of the ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) also joined the protest, amplifying calls for action.
Amit Solanki, Police Station Incharge, confirmed to IANS that an FIR has been registered and the student’s statement has been recorded. He stated, “An incident of attempted rape by an outsider on a girl residing in the hostel has come to light…”
Throughout the protest, students accused hospital staff of attempting to suppress the matter. The incident has sparked widespread concern over the safety and security of women in educational institutions, particularly medical colleges.
