Delhi, January 2025: A recent report by Mpower, a mental health helpline, sheds light on the escalating mental health concerns in Delhi, with anxiety and relationship issues being the leading causes of distress, particularly among individuals aged 26-40. The findings come from an analysis of over 108,779 calls, highlighting a worrying trend in the capital city’s mental well-being.

The report reveals that relationship problems are the top concern for Delhi residents, accounting for 27% of the calls, followed closely by anxiety at 26%. This underscores the significant toll that interpersonal challenges and stress are taking on the mental health of the 26-40 age group. The demographic pattern shows that individuals in this age range make up 52% of the callers, while those aged 18-25 represent 36%.

Women are particularly affected, making up 51% of the callers, compared to 41% men. Experts believe that urban living and the fast-paced lifestyle of Delhi contribute to the rise in relationship-related problems. Dr. Ankit Gautam, a mental health expert, emphasizes the importance of building resilience through strategies such as meditation, yoga, regular exercise, maintaining a healthy diet, ensuring proper sleep hygiene, and cultivating strong social support systems to cope with the mounting stressors.

With these findings, there is a clear call for more targeted mental health interventions, especially for young adults who face unique challenges in an increasingly complex and demanding urban environment. As the mental health crisis deepens, the need for accessible resources and support structures for individuals dealing with anxiety and relationship difficulties is more pressing than ever.
