Amaravati, March 9, 2025: In a bid to encourage larger families, Kalisetti Appala Naidu, the Member of Parliament (MP) from Vizianagaram, has announced a financial incentive for women giving birth to a third child. The initiative offers ₹50,000 to each woman who delivers a third child, with an additional cow provided if the newborn is a boy. MP Appala Naidu stated that these incentives would be funded from his personal salary.
This announcement aligns with remarks made by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP President Chandrababu Naidu, who has advocated for incentives to promote higher birth rates. The Chief Minister expressed concerns over the region’s aging population and emphasized the need for long-term demographic management.
The proposal has gained traction on social media, with TDP leaders and activists widely sharing the news. Many women have hailed the initiative as a progressive step towards addressing demographic challenges. Chief Minister Naidu has praised MP Appala Naidu for his commitment to promoting population growth.
This move is part of broader efforts by various communities and organizations in India to address concerns related to declining population growth. For instance, the Maheshwari community in Rajasthan has introduced a scheme offering a fixed deposit of ₹50,000 to couples upon the birth of their third child, irrespective of gender. Previously, this benefit was extended only when the third child was a girl.
Additionally, government schemes such as Maharashtra’s “Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana” provide financial incentives for the birth and education of girl children, aiming to promote gender equality and support families.
These initiatives reflect a growing recognition of the need to address demographic challenges through supportive measures that encourage population growth and balance.
