Mumbai, India – April 25, 2025: Anandita De, a digital creator and daughter of renowned columnist Shobhaa De, has opened up about her impressive wellness journey, revealing she has shed 42 kilograms since August 2024 through a combination of disciplined eating and consistent, simple exercise.
In a recent interview, Anandita shared that walking has become the cornerstone of her fitness routine, a significant shift from her previous approaches. “I walk every day, and that’s my only form of exercise,” she stated, detailing a rigorous schedule of 1.5 hours in the morning and another hour in the evening, without fail. This comes after previously trying various methods including “fancy equipment,” TRX, boxing, weightlifting, and working with top trainers. She credits her evening walks with aiding her sleep hygiene, helping manage clinical anxiety and insomnia she has dealt with since 2018.
Anandita emphasizes that her transformation is as much mental as physical. “It’s all mind over body. My mind shift has changed 100 percent from August 2024 to the present,” she explained, highlighting her minimal rest days, usually only taken during severe menstrual cramps.
Remarkably, alongside the weight loss, Anandita achieved significant health milestones. She successfully reversed her type 2 diabetes in under two months of starting her journey. Furthermore, she regained a regular menstrual cycle, which she hadn’t experienced for years due to obesity-related hormonal imbalances. “I’m very proud yet humbled to mention that I now do,” she shared regarding her periods.
Regarding her diet, Anandita clarified that she hasn’t followed any specific named diet or consulted nutritionists, relying instead on “common sense” and “sensible eating.” Key changes include completely avoiding refined foods like flour, deep-fried items, pasta, pizza, potatoes, fizzy drinks, and alcohol. “Sugar is the biggest killer,” she asserted, opting for fruit or an occasional date if she desires something sweet.
She stressed the importance of mindful eating and portion control over starvation. “I don’t believe in starvation. I believe in mindful eating and portion control,” Anandita said. Her meals now consist of options like morning coffee without accompaniments (a stark contrast to her previous habit of eating nearly a whole packet of cookies with it), breakfast choices like fruit, sugar-free oats, porridge, or lightly tossed poha (flattened rice), always focusing on portion size. Dinner typically includes lean meat protein or chapati (without added oil or ghee) and a vegetable cooked with minimal oil.
For others embarking on a similar path, Anandita advises consistency and patience. “Just be super consistent with your diet and exercise routine… One may not see the results instantly… My favourite statement to quote is ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’. Be patient and diligently follow a set routine.”
