In response to the alarming issue of counterfeit letters of permission and renewal (LoPs and LoRs) being illicitly issued to various medical colleges nationwide, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a stringent directive for all medical education institutions in states and Union Territories to adhere to.

According to the recent directive from NMC, the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) in all states and UTs is mandated to allocate MBBS, PG medical, and Super Speciality (SS) seats exclusively based on the information available on the NMC website.

Furthermore, the apex medical commission has strongly advised all concerned parties, including medical institutions and the general public, not to rely on information from any source other than the official NMC website.

In recent reports, Medical Dialogues has highlighted the proliferation of forged permission and renewal letters during ongoing NEET and NEET PG counseling sessions. These fake LoPs purported to be issued on behalf of the Member/President of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the NMC.

To address this issue, the NMC has now instructed the Directorate of Medical Education in states/UTs to admit students solely based on the seat information provided on the NMC’s official website.

The notification issued under the authority of Arun Kumar Singh, Deputy Secretary of MARB, states, “It has come to the notice of Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission that several forged/fake letters have been issued to various colleges on behalf of Member/President, MARB, whereas no such communications have been sent to the colleges in this regard.”

In light of these circumstances, all Directorate of Medical Education in the concerned states/UTs have been urged to fill the seats for Under Graduate-MBBS and Post Graduate-Broad Speciality and Super Speciality for the academic year 2023-24 solely based on the information available on the National Medical Commission’s website.

The NMC has also cautioned: “The above facts are also brought to the notice of all concerned and the general public to not take any action based on information provided by any other sources except the information available on the website of the National Medical Commission. If any discrepancies are found or noticed, the same may be cross-verified through the National Medical Commission.”
