Amidst the ongoing NEET and NEET PG counseling processes, certain unscrupulous individuals are disseminating false information in the name of the National Medical Commission (NMC). Recognizing that this deceitful activity jeopardizes the interests of both students and medical institutions, the NMC has decided to introduce digital signatures on its Letters of Permission (LoP), Continuation of Recognition (CoR), and appeal orders, all of which will now bear the digital signatures of the relevant Member/President of the respective Boards.

Last week, in response to the serious issue of counterfeit Letters of Permission and Renewal (LoPs and LoRs) being distributed to various medical colleges nationwide, the apex medical commission issued a stern directive to medical education bodies in all states and union territories to strictly adhere to the guidelines.

According to the recent directive from the NMC, the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) in all states and UTs must allocate MBBS, PG medical, and Super Speciality (SS) seats based solely on the information available on the NMC website. Furthermore, the NMC has advised all concerned stakeholders, including medical institutions and the general public, not to rely on information from any source other than the NMC website.

Up to this point, the NMC has released two clarifications regarding forged permission and renewal letters purportedly issued by the Member/President of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the NMC to the following medical colleges: GSL Medical College, Rajahmundry; Maharajah Institute of Medical Sciences, Vizianagaram; Santhiram Medical College, Nandyal; Meenakshi Medical College, Kanchipuram; and Santhiram Medical College, Kurnool.

In its recent notification, the commission once again cautioned authorities against such fraudulent activities, stating, “Instances have come to the notice of the National Medical Commission where fake Letter of Permission (LoP) and Continuation of Recognition (CoR) have been issued to the Medical Colleges in the name of President/Member of the Boards.”

As a preventive measure against such forgery, the NMC has decided that all LoPs, CoRs, and appeal orders issued by the NMC will now bear digital signatures from the respective boards as a mark of authenticity. In light of this, the NMC has directed medical colleges to recognize only those LoPs/CoRs/Appeal orders with the digital signature of the relevant Member/President of the board as genuine, while cautioning against accepting these letters in any other format.

“All the Medical Colleges are hereby informed that henceforth only LoPs/CoRs/Appeal orders issued by the concerned Board under the Digital Signature of the concerned Member/President should only be treated as genuine,” the NMC stated. “The Dean/Principal will be solely responsible for taking cognizance of letters in any other form.”
