New Delhi, December 21 — The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Blockchain For Impact (BFI) to advance biomedical research and innovation in India’s public health sector.
Under a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), BFI will support AIIMS in a pioneering project aimed at exploring genetic and epigenetic factors that could serve as markers for recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTI).
Recurrent urinary tract infections pose a significant healthcare challenge, impacting patient quality of life and adding to the economic burden of treatment. The research project, spearheaded by Dr. Sarita Mohapatra, Additional Professor in the Department of Microbiology at AIIMS Delhi, is funded under the BFI-BIOME Medical INI Grant Programme. This initiative is designed to bolster Medical Institutes of National Importance (INIs) through the Blockchain For Impact Biomedical Virtual Network (BFI-BIOME).
A Vision for Transformative Healthcare
The BFI-BIOME network, created by Blockchain For Impact, seeks to bridge sectors, support cutting-edge scientific research, and drive innovation to strengthen India’s biomedical research ecosystem.
Dr. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS Delhi, emphasized the importance of this collaboration:
“At AIIMS New Delhi, we are committed to advancing healthcare innovation through cutting-edge research and technology. The support from the BFI-BIOME Medical INI Grant Programme enables us to explore new frontiers in medical science, empowering our faculty and researchers to make transformative contributions to global healthcare.”
Sandeep Nailwal, Founder of BFI, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating:
“The BFI-BIOME initiative represents a paradigm shift by fostering collaboration between leading biomedical researchers, clinicians, and innovators to pioneer the next generation of health interventions. Partnering with AIIMS Delhi reinforces our commitment to strengthening the healthcare ecosystem in India.”
AIIMS Delhi: A Hub of Biomedical Excellence
With 25 clinical departments and four super-specialty centers, AIIMS Delhi has long been at the forefront of medical research in India. The institution’s contributions to combating infectious diseases like leprosy, malaria, and tuberculosis, as well as its work on non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, have set benchmarks in the healthcare domain.
Advancing Biomedical Research in India
The partnership represents a significant milestone in the BFI-BIOME Network Programme’s mission to catalyze transformative biomedical innovation in India. By addressing critical healthcare challenges such as rUTI and fostering equitable access to advanced research, the collaboration aims to create a sustainable and inclusive healthcare ecosystem.
Through this initiative, AIIMS Delhi and Blockchain For Impact are poised to redefine the landscape of biomedical research in India, setting the stage for solutions that could resonate globally.
