New Delhi, July 25, 2025 – In a move set to transform the future of medical surgery, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, has announced a landmark collaboration with Germany’s TU Dresden. This strategic alliance aims to integrate artificial intelligence (AI), deep-tech solutions, and extended reality into surgical practices to address some of the most pressing health challenges worldwide.
Key Outcomes from a Pioneering Workshop
The partnership was formalized during a three-day Indo-German workshop titled “Artificial Intelligence, Extended Reality, and Robotics in Healthcare: Emerging Pathways from Diagnosis to Therapy.” Hosted at TU Dresden from July 16 to 18 under the auspices of the Indo-German Science & Technology Centre (IGSTC), the event brought together more than 50 leading clinicians, researchers, innovators, and industry experts from both India and Germany.
Highlights of the initiative included:
-
The signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between Prof. Ursula Staudinger, Rector of TU Dresden, and Dr M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS New Delhi.
-
A commitment to long-term cooperation in translational research, digital technology integration in clinical practice, and incubation of joint startups focused on healthcare.
A Step Forward for Global Healthcare Innovation
This collaboration represents a major leap forward for healthcare innovation, positioning the two institutions as world leaders at the crossroads of medicine, engineering, and digital technology. Supported by the Embassy of India in Germany, the workshop underscored the shared ambition of both nations to co-develop next-generation healthcare solutions, further strengthening bilateral science diplomacy.
“This collaboration is a game changer,” said Dr M. Srinivas. “We are combining the real-world clinical experience of AIIMS with the engineering and technology excellence of TU Dresden to create a global prototype for future-ready healthcare systems. The opportunity to translate this into patient care across not just our two countries but on a global scale is huge.”
Prof. Ursula Staudinger echoed this, stating, “TU Dresden stands at the helm, bringing together Germany’s best in medically oriented engineering and Indian clinical expertise to forge a strong interdisciplinary research model at the interface of engineering, medicine, and technological foresight.”
