Sedwa, Rajasthan – February 7, 2025: Around 300 medical professionals, including doctors and students, staged a candle march from the Government District Hospital, Sedwa, to the Collectorate Office, demanding strict action against the Sedwa Subdivisional Magistrate (SDM) for allegedly misbehaving with a duty doctor.

Dr. Lakshya Mittal, National President of the United Doctors’ Front (UDF), provided further details on the matter, stating, “Following the candle march by all medical, resident, and government doctors for about 15 minutes around 10 pm, several medical associations participated in a Zoom meeting to discuss the further course of action.”

Widespread Support from Medical Associations

The protest has garnered support from key medical associations, including:

  • United Doctors’ Front (UDF)
  • United Private Clinics & Hospitals Association of Rajasthan (UPCHAR)
  • All Rajasthan In-Service Doctors Association (ARISDA)

Additionally, members from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and other regional medical groups also joined the meeting to strategize further steps.

Medicos Halt Medical Services in Protest

As police have yet to file an FIR against the SDM, the protesting doctors have taken a firm stand by halting medical healthcare services in both government and private hospitals. “All the medicos have jointly agreed that until an FIR is filed and strict action is taken against the SDM, medical services will remain shut,” Dr. Mittal asserted.

To escalate their protest, the front has scheduled a shutdown of elective medical services on Monday, February 10, 2025. Further, representatives from the associations are planning to meet Rajasthan’s Chief Secretary, Sudhansh Pant, on the same day to press for their demands.

Background of the Incident

The controversy began on February 1, 2025, when SDM Badri Narayan Vishnoi allegedly confronted a doctor at a primary health center (PHC) in the district. Vishnoi aggressively ordered the doctor to attend to a patient in the emergency ward and reportedly threatened him with police action. Despite the doctor’s repeated clarifications that he had already attended to the patient and was handling an overwhelming number of 250 other patients in the outpatient department, the SDM continued to pressure him.

Call for Immediate Government Intervention

With the healthcare sector in Rajasthan witnessing a major disruption due to the protests, the medical community is urging the state government to intervene promptly. The demand for an FIR against the SDM and concrete action is growing louder as medical services remain paralyzed across the state.
