New Delhi, December 20: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) have announced a groundbreaking collaboration to advance research in healthcare, emerging technologies, and policy development. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on Wednesday, aims to foster innovation and develop solutions for India’s most pressing healthcare challenges.
“The partnership between these two premier institutions will unlock immense potential for translational research and significantly enhance patient care quality,” said Prof. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS. By combining AIIMS’ clinical expertise with CSIR’s technological prowess, the collaboration seeks to accelerate medical advancements and improve healthcare delivery.

CSIR, a leading research organization with a network of laboratories and innovation hubs across India, is known for its expertise in diverse scientific and technological domains. The collaboration will promote regular dialogues and foster joint initiatives that address critical healthcare issues, focusing on areas such as biomedical waste management, genetic health, and advanced diagnostic tools.
Ongoing Projects and Future Plans
AIIMS and CSIR have a history of collaboration, with notable projects already in progress. For instance, the two institutions are working on a pilot project to convert biomedical waste into soil additives, a promising initiative for sustainable waste management.
AIIMS Bhopal is also employing a molecular PCR-based diagnostic test developed by CSIR-CCMB to aid patients with sickle cell disease. Additionally, the institutions are conducting joint research on sickle cell disease and genetic health, aiming to deliver targeted solutions for these challenges.
