In a groundbreaking achievement, the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card has witnessed over 10 lakh enrolments within three weeks of its launch under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). The initiative, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 29, 2024, aims to provide free healthcare services to senior citizens aged 70 years and above, ensuring comprehensive health coverage for one of the most vulnerable demographics.
Of the total enrolments, around 4 lakh are by women, reflecting a significant uptake among female beneficiaries. The program underscores the government’s commitment to gender-inclusive healthcare policies.
Healthcare Impact
Since the launch, treatments worth over ₹9 crore have been authorized under the scheme, benefiting more than 4,800 senior citizens, including over 1,400 women. These treatments span critical and routine medical needs, including coronary angioplasty, hip replacements, gallbladder surgeries, cataract procedures, prostate resections, and stroke care.
Reaching the Elderly
The Ayushman Vay Vandana Card is an extension of the AB PM-JAY scheme, tailored to address the unique healthcare needs of senior citizens. The card ensures cashless and paperless healthcare at empaneled hospitals, relieving financial stress for families while providing timely access to quality medical services.
Government Commitment
The rapid enrolment figures underscore the effectiveness of awareness campaigns and the trust reposed by citizens in the government’s healthcare initiatives. The scheme is expected to set a new benchmark in providing accessible and equitable healthcare for senior citizens.
As the government continues to expand its outreach, the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card is poised to become a transformative initiative in India’s healthcare ecosystem, promoting well-being and dignity for senior citizens.
