In a significant shift in women’s health-seeking behavior, nearly 50% of Indian women are now prioritizing their preventive and diagnostic healthcare, according to a new report released by Redcliffe Labs, a pan-India omnichannel diagnostics provider. The report, unveiled ahead of International Women’s Day, highlights a notable increase in women proactively undergoing health checkups and diagnostic tests over the past three years.

Based on a study conducted under Redcliffe Labs’ ‘Let Her Decide’ campaign, which surveyed a sample size of one million, the findings underscore a steady rise in women’s prioritization of their own health. The percentage of women focusing on their health has seen a significant uptick, climbing from 40% in 2021 to 45% in 2022 and reaching an impressive 48% in 2023.

The study revealed that women across major cities including Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, and Hyderabad are increasingly demonstrating heightened health awareness and actively seeking preventive care through timely health checkups. Preventive health checkup packages emerged as a primary focus for these women, with tests like the HbA1C test for diabetes monitoring, haemogram tests, rheumatoid factor (RA) quantitative test, and thyroid profile tests ranking among the popular choices.

Dr. Sohini Sengupta, Medical Laboratory Director at Redcliffe Labs, expressed enthusiasm about the findings, stating, “We aim to support women throughout their health journey. Our ‘Let Her Decide’ campaign is a step towards encouraging women to trust themselves, empowering them to make informed decisions about their well-being. We are thrilled to see women taking charge of their well-being through early detection and prevention.”

The increasing trend of women prioritizing their health underscores a transformative shift in societal attitudes towards women’s healthcare. By actively engaging in preventive measures and diagnostic screenings, women are not only safeguarding their health but also fostering a culture of proactive wellness management. As this trend continues to gain momentum, it promises to usher in a new era of empowered and healthier women across India.
