In a remarkable display of quick thinking and life-saving skills, a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to a 63-year-old French national, saving his life after he lost consciousness during a security check.
Sub-Inspector Puneet Kumar Tiwari, who was on duty at a security hold area screening point, noticed the elderly passenger collapsing while standing in the queue for security check. Acting promptly, Tiwari assessed the situation and administered CPR to the unconscious passenger.
The incident occurred on Friday when Bertrand Patrick, a 63-year-old French national bound for Paris via a Vistara flight, suddenly lost consciousness and fell to the floor during the security check process.
“Tiwari acted promptly and administered CPR to the passenger. On call, a doctor from the Medanta medical room also reached the location and administered initial treatment to the passenger,” explained a senior CISF official.
The coordinated efforts of Sub-Inspector Tiwari and the on-call doctor led to a positive outcome as the passenger regained consciousness and showed signs of improvement. The medical professional then deemed him fit to continue his journey.
The incident highlights the critical role played by trained personnel like Sub-Inspector Tiwari in emergency situations, demonstrating the importance of having individuals with life-saving skills in public spaces. The CISF personnel’s swift response and the immediate availability of medical assistance ensured that a potentially critical situation was averted, and the passenger could proceed with his travel plans.
The CISF, responsible for security at major airports and critical infrastructure in India, continues to prioritize both security and the well-being of passengers, showcasing the dedication and readiness of its personnel to handle diverse situations. The incident serves as a reminder of the crucial role security personnel play beyond ensuring safety, extending to the preservation of human life in unforeseen circumstances.
