In an effort to unravel the mysteries of metabolic health and its intricate connection to daily habits, Fitbit, a leading wearable device company, has embarked on the WEAR-ME Study. Collaborating with Quest Diagnostics, the global diagnostic information provider, this study aims to leverage wearable technology to assess and enhance metabolic health, ultimately empowering individuals to make informed lifestyle choices.

Metabolic health is a critical aspect of overall well-being, influencing how the body processes nutrients, produces energy, and builds immunity. In a pioneering move, Fitbit is collaborating with Quest Diagnostics to include biomarker data obtained from blood samples. Eligible participants in the study will undergo a free blood draw facilitated by Quest, which includes a comprehensive metabolic panel measuring cholesterol, triglycerides, and insulin levels. The combination of wearable data and biomarker information will fuel the development of algorithms that can assess metabolic health and prompt early interventions.

Participation and Ethical Standards

Fitbit invites eligible individuals to participate in the WEAR-ME Study, emphasizing the importance of understanding metabolic health for a healthier life. The study is accessible through the Google Health Studies app, and participation is open to Pixel Watch or Fitbit users aged between 21 and 80 in the United States (excluding Hawaii, Alaska, and Arizona), using an Android phone. Participants must be willing to visit one of Quest Diagnostics Patient Service Centers for a blood draw, complete four questionnaires, and share Fitbit data for three months prior to joining the study and throughout its duration.

Fitbit ensures that data collected during the study will adhere to strict ethical standards, with a commitment to using it solely for research and product development. The privacy and confidentiality of participants’ data are paramount, and it will not be sold or used for advertising purposes.
