Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, inaugurated the groundbreaking initiative ‘PRASADAM,’ the nation’s inaugural Healthy & Hygienic Food Street at Neelkanth Van, Mahakal Lok, in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. This initiative is set to transform the local culinary landscape while promoting healthy eating habits among citizens.

Joined by Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, and other esteemed dignitaries like Shri Rajendra Shukla, Deputy Chief Minister, and Shri Narendra Shivaji Patel, Minister of State for Public Health and Family Welfare, the inauguration witnessed the launch of a visionary effort in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).

Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the critical role of healthy and hygienic food in ensuring the well-being of citizens, envisioning the establishment of similar food streets across the country. Launching the official website and outlining the Standard Operating Procedure for Healthy & Hygienic Food Streets, the Union Health Minister laid the foundation for a nationwide movement towards accessible and safe local food.

The event marked the inauguration of 17 civil works, including health units, clinics, labs, and emergency COVID response facilities, reinforcing the commitment to robust healthcare infrastructure.

Additionally, the Mannhit app, an initiative aimed at mental health screening, was unveiled, addressing critical aspects of holistic health. The occasion celebrated the launch of the “DART Book” by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), empowering consumers to detect common food adulterations using simple tests at home. Furthermore, the introduction of the Food Safety on Wheels (FSW) mobile van aims to reach remote areas for awareness campaigns and adulteration testing.

Spread across 939 square meters with 19 shops, ‘Prasadam’ caters to 1-1.5 lakh daily devotees visiting the Mahakaleshwar Temple. Offering culturally rich dining options, it not only provides convenience but also prioritizes essential facilities like a kids’ play area, drinking water, CCTV surveillance, parking, public conveniences, and seating spaces.

Dr. Yadav praised the Food Street initiative, underscoring its role in promoting health and cleanliness while serving a significant number of visitors to the temple daily.

The inaugural event witnessed the participation of Members of Parliament, government officials, and dignitaries, signaling a collaborative effort towards promoting healthy living and preserving culinary heritage, contributing to economic growth and community engagement in Ujjain.
