According to the National Medical Commission (NMC), the NEET UG 2024 syllabus guidance will soon prompt the National Testing Agency (NTA) to announce a streamlined syllabus for the entrance exam next week. This revised syllabus, lighter in content, incorporates NMC’s recommendations and input from various Boards that adjusted their senior secondary syllabi during the COVID-19 pandemic, states TOI.
NEET UG is a pen-and-paper-based offline exam administered annually by NTA, comprising a single question paper with 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) spanning Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). The test spans 3 hours and 20 minutes, offered in multiple languages for accessibility to a wide pool of students. It serves as the gateway to various medical courses, including MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS, and BHMS.
This test boasts one of the world’s largest participation rates. This year, a staggering 20.87 lakh candidates registered. NTA, in its examination calendar for the academic year 2024-2025, confirmed the NEET UG 2024 exam date as May 05, 2024. Earlier, the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of NMC finalized and released the NEET-UG 2024 syllabus, offering clarity to aspirants preparing for this centralized MBBS entrance exam.
The Commission released the syllabus in response to a plea filed before the Delhi High Court, urging authorities to disclose and update the NEET-UG 2024 syllabus on the website.
The syllabus, now available on the NMC website, specifies that Physics questions will cover 20 Units, including various topics like Physics and Measurement, Kinematics, Laws of Motion, and more. Chemistry’s syllabus is divided into Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry, comprising a total of 20 Units, while Biology’s syllabus covers 10 Units encompassing topics from Diversity in Living World to Ecology and Environment.
According to the latest report from the Times of India, NTA will soon release a streamlined syllabus for NEET UG 2024, with online registration for the common entrance examination for undergraduate medical, dental, and allied courses starting in January. NTA assures that this revised syllabus will incorporate NMC’s recommendations and align with adjustments made by various Boards during the pandemic.
NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh mentioned to TOI, “NTA will announce the NEET-UG syllabus next week, aiding students in their preparation. It will be a reduced syllabus, allowing students over six months to plan for the entrance test.”
During the pandemic, several education boards, including CBSE and NCERT, reduced the syllabi for Classes IX to XII due to academic disruptions. However, as of now, there have been no changes made to the NEET-UG and JEE (Main) syllabi.
