Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy, and Department of Space, emphasized today that the government, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has implemented various measures to enhance the affordability and accessibility of medical education. The objective is to ensure that deserving candidates are not at a disadvantage. Over the span of just over 9 years, the number of MBBS seats has seen a remarkable 79% increase, rising from 51,348 to 91,927. Similarly, MD seats have witnessed a surge of 93%, growing from 31,185 to 60,202.
Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted a significant leap in the healthcare sector, noting that the number of government medical colleges increased from 145 in 2014 to 260, and the count of AIIMS (All India Institutes of Medical Sciences) rose to 23 during the same period.
Speaking at an event where he inaugurated a 32-seater bus donated to AIIMS, Jammu by the State Bank of India (SBI), Dr. Jitendra Singh commended the commitment of the Prime Minister and expressed gratitude for the positive changes in the healthcare sector. He suggested the inclusion of telemedicine provisions in SBI-donated buses, akin to the ‘Doctors on Wheels’ concept, aiming to improve healthcare accessibility in remote areas. The Minister also advocated for an integrated health management protocol to enhance medical services in far-flung regions.
Addressing India’s vaccination program, Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that the country has become a global leader in protective healthcare, a significant transformation from the past when India was not recognized seriously in the healthcare domain.
Following the inauguration, the Minister engaged with the students and faculty of AIIMS, Jammu, sharing experiences and providing tips on excelling in the medical field. Dr. Jitendra Singh discussed the latest advancements in medical practice, such as Artificial Intelligence and Quantum therapies, and emphasized the integration of clinical medicine with Deep Technology for optimal outcomes. He released a book titled “Handbook of Policies, Guidelines and Procedures,” stressing the importance of collaboration between institutions and conducting trials across multiple centers. Additionally, he encouraged students to work towards realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of a developed nation by 2047.
