Lt. Gen. Ajith Nilakantan, Commandant of Army Hospital (R and R), emphasized on Sunday that menstrual cups are not only cost-effective but also eco-friendly, convenient to use and maintain.

The Army Hospital (R and R) in Delhi Cantt organized a menstrual health awareness program titled ‘Mahawari Mein Swachchta’.

Lt. Gen. Ajith Nilakantan pointed out that menstrual cups are reusable and highly convenient for women working in offices as well as those serving in the armed forces.

“It caters to both married and unmarried women with equal ease. Additionally, it doesn’t contribute to the production of bio-waste, thus aiding in environmental conservation by reducing the tons of waste generated by commonly used sanitary pads,” he stated.

The event at Army Hospital included a lecture and demonstration, with women from various walks of life, including adolescent girls, actively participating.

Senior army officials highlighted the need to debunk social taboos and myths surrounding menstruation, shed light on the medical aspects of proper menstrual hygiene, and provided practical yet effective approaches to dealing with menstrual issues.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Army Hospital also developed educational materials which were distributed to the participants.

Educational booths were set up to address both social and medical aspects related to menstrual hygiene. These efforts aimed to educate men in society and emphasize the importance of community support in India regarding this issue.
