Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, conducted a comprehensive review of the measures taken to contain the Nipah virus outbreak in Kozhikode, Kerala. This evaluation took place at the Indian Council of Medical Research – National Institute of Virology (ICMR-NIV) in Pune today.
Following the review, Dr. Pawar emphasized that “the Government of India, led by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and guided by Hon’ble Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, is closely monitoring the situation and implementing necessary measures to prevent further spread.” Dr. Pawar also affirmed that, under the guidance of Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, advanced teams from the Centre and ICMR-NIV, equipped with mobile units featuring BSL-3 laboratories, have already arrived in Kozhikode to conduct on-site testing. She further announced the designation of affected gram panchayats in the Kozhikode region as quarantine zones. Additionally, a multi-disciplinary team led by Dr. Mala Chhabra has been dispatched by the Union Health Ministry to assist the state in implementing public health measures to address this outbreak.
The Union Minister provided assurance that both the Union Health Ministry and ICMR-NIV are vigilantly monitoring the situation on a daily basis. The central government is actively coordinating all necessary arrangements to effectively manage the viral outbreak.
