The World Health Organization (WHO) has today published the applications seeking addition, changes and removal of medicines on the WHO Model Lists of Essential Medicines and Essential Medicines for Children that will be considered by the 24th WHO Expert Committee on Selection and Use of Essential Medicines at its meeting to be held in Geneva from 24 to 28 April 2023.
The WHO Model Lists are reviewed and updated every 2 years. They provide an evidence-based model upon which countries can base their own national essential medicine lists – medicines that are considered necessary for all health systems, regardless of development level. The WHO Model Lists are a key tool for achieving universal health coverage, providing guidance to governments, health facilities, and procurers on which medicines are the best value in terms of benefits for individuals and communities.

WHO is now inviting interested stakeholders to review and submit comments on the applications. Comments should be sent by email to the EML Secretariat by Friday 8 April 2023, 18h00 CEST. See “Related” links for more information.

For any enquiries regarding the Expert Committee meeting or the invitation for public comments, please contact the EML Secretariat.
