Toronto, Canada — Toronto Public Health (TPH) has notified approximately 2,500 women of potential exposure to HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C at Dr. Esther Park’s gynecology clinic. Between October 10, 2020, and October 10, 2024, medical instruments at the High Park neighborhood clinic were not properly cleaned, disinfected, or sterilized, leading to a “very small chance” of transmission of bloodborne infections.
The affected patients underwent procedures such as endocervical polyp excision, endometrial biopsy, or intrauterine device (IUD) insertion or removal during their visits. TPH recommends that these individuals consult their healthcare providers to discuss testing for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV as a precautionary measure.
Dr. Esther Park’s medical license has been restricted, limiting her practice to office-based gynecology since December 17, 2024. The College of Physicians and Surgeons Ontario (CPSO) is currently investigating infection control issues within her practice.
