Bhopal, 17 September 2024 – In a significant move to improve access to affordable medicines, the Madhya Pradesh government inaugurated 50 Jan Aushadhi Kendras today, located in District Hospitals across the state. The initiative, which aims to provide high-quality medicines at reduced prices, was marked by a grand ceremony at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre in Bhopal, with Shri Mangubhai Patel, Governor of Madhya Pradesh, attending as the chief guest. Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, presided over the event.

These newly launched Jan Aushadhi Kendras are set to provide the citizens of Madhya Pradesh with a wide range of over 2,000 generic medicines, as well as 300 surgical items, nutraceuticals, and medical devices, all at significantly lower prices—ranging from 50% to 90% less than their branded equivalents. This move is expected to drastically reduce out-of-pocket healthcare expenditure for countless families across the state.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Mangubhai Patel highlighted the critical role that these kendras will play in improving public health and making healthcare more accessible to the underprivileged. He remarked, “The government’s effort to open these Jan Aushadhi Kendras in district hospitals is a step toward healthcare equity. The availability of affordable medicines will greatly reduce the financial burden on patients, especially those from low-income backgrounds.”

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, in his address, emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure. “These Jan Aushadhi Kendras are part of our broader vision to provide quality healthcare to every citizen of Madhya Pradesh, irrespective of their economic status. With the availability of affordable medicines and devices, people no longer need to choose between their health and their financial stability,” said the Chief Minister.

The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), under which these kendras are being established, is a nationwide scheme initiated by the Government of India to promote the use of generic medicines. The scheme has been lauded for making medicines more accessible, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas, by providing safe and effective alternatives to costlier branded drugs.

The establishment of these 50 Jan Aushadhi Kendras is expected to further the state’s efforts to bridge the gap in healthcare accessibility. By offering affordable alternatives for treatment, patients across Madhya Pradesh can now benefit from a more cost-effective approach to managing chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and respiratory diseases, which often require long-term medication.

The state government aims to expand this network further, with plans to increase the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the coming years, ensuring that quality and affordable healthcare reaches every corner of Madhya Pradesh.

This initiative reflects the growing emphasis on public health by both the state and central governments and marks another milestone in the ongoing effort to make healthcare services affordable for all.
