Amid the rising heatwave, the Ministry of Health on Sunday advised employers to implement essential heat safety measures in the workplace.
“From providing hydration stations to scheduling outdoor tasks during cooler hours, let’s ensure our workers stay cool, healthy, and productive,” the ministry posted on X.com.
In an animated post, the ministry urged employers to offer proper drinking water facilities at work.
“Schedule strenuous and outdoor jobs during cooler times of the day and increase the frequency of rest breaks,” the ministry advised.
They also emphasized the importance of training workers to recognize symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
Exposure to extreme heat can lead to health issues ranging from rashes to serious and potentially fatal conditions such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Common symptoms include headache, dizziness, dehydration, and breathing problems, the ministry noted.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a ‘red alert’ for several states in northern India, including Delhi, due to the ongoing heatwave and high temperatures.
In Delhi, temperatures are expected to range between 43 and 47 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD.
