Hisar/Jaipur: The medical community and the public have been shaken by the tragic and mysterious death of Dr. Bhawana Yadav, a 25-year-old medical graduate from Rajasthan, who succumbed to severe burn injuries after being found in Haryana’s Hisar last week. The case has prompted a murder investigation, with the family alleging foul play and demanding a thorough probe.
Dr. Bhawana Yadav, a native of Alwar district, had recently completed her MBBS from the Philippines in 2023 and was preparing for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), a mandatory licensing test for Indian and OCI doctors who studied abroad. She was attending online classes and regularly traveling to Delhi for weekly tests, usually staying with her younger sister, who is preparing for the Civil Services Examination.
According to her mother, Gayatri Yadav, Bhawana was last in Delhi on April 21 and 22, staying with her sister and appearing for exams. On April 23, Bhawana called her mother to say she would return home the next morning, but she never arrived. Instead, on April 24, Gayatri Yadav received a distressing call from a man identifying himself as Umesh (or Udesh) Yadav, informing her that Bhawana had suffered severe burn injuries and was admitted to Soni Hospital in Hisar.
Upon reaching Hisar, Bhawana’s mother found her daughter in critical condition. Hospital staff could not clarify where or how Bhawana had been found, nor the circumstances that led to her injuries. Due to the severity of her burns, Bhawana was transferred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur, where she died during treatment on the night of April .
The circumstances surrounding her death have raised serious concerns. Gayatri Yadav has filed a zero FIR in Jaipur, which has been forwarded to the Hisar Civil Lines police station for further investigation. She alleges that her daughter was stabbed in the abdomen with a sharp weapon before being set on fire. During treatment, it was observed that Bhawana’s face, abdomen, and legs up to the knees were badly burned, while her hair and back remained untouched-details that have fueled suspicions of a targeted attack rather than an accident.
Adding to the mystery, Bhawana’s laptop, mobile phone, and important documents were missing. The family has also expressed suspicion over the man who called to relay news of Bhawana’s injuries, noting that he has since gone missing and switched off his phone.
The Rajasthan police have registered a murder case against a man from Rewari, and the investigation is ongoing. Inspector Kavita, in charge of the Hisar Civil Lines police station, confirmed that the FIR from Rajasthan police has not yet been officially received but that the case is being actively probed.
The shocking death has triggered a wave of grief and anger in Bhawana’s hometown, with locals and relatives demanding a fair and transparent investigation into the incident.
“My daughter was first stabbed and then set on fire. Her laptop, mobile phone, and important documents are missing. We want justice,” said Gayatri Yadav, the victim’s mother.
